Depending on the Delta career you're after, you may encounter a different hiring process. 

  • Delta Flight Attendant Hiring Process

The hiring process for Delta flight attendants includes a virtual job tryout assessment and an interview.

During the Virtual Job Tryout, you will face 6 different stages: Handle Work Challenges, Serve Your Passengers, Understand Passengers, Tell Us Your Story, Recall Passenger Needs, and Describe Your Approach.

Let's examine a sample question in the style of the Handle Work Challenges section.

This section requires you to read about a scenario you might encounter during your work as a flight attendant. After reviewing four different responses, you will have to determine which is the most appropriate and which is the least appropriate. 

Handle Work Challenges Sample Question

During a red-eye flight, you notice a passenger repeatedly pressing the call button, appearing extremely agitated each time you respond. Upon your third visit, they explain they are claustrophobic and feel increasingly uncomfortable as the flight progresses.

What would you do in this situation?
Select the statement most similar to your reaction and the one least like your behavior.

A

You have other passengers to attend to and cannot dedicate all your time to one individual. Suggest they try to sleep or watch a movie to distract themselves.

B

Recognize the severity of their discomfort and try to find a more open seat, perhaps by asking if anyone is willing to switch seats for a small incentive.

C

Tell the passenger that feelings of claustrophobia are common in flights and they should try some deep breathing exercises to manage their anxiety.

D

Let the passenger know that you understand their discomfort, but unfortunately, there are no other seats available. Offer a blanket or pillow to make their current seat more comfortable.

In the service industry, especially in roles like flight attendants, it is important to balance efficiency with exceptional care. Option (c) not only addresses the passenger's discomfort by actively seeking a solution but also involves other passengers in a positive way, potentially enhancing the overall service experience. On the other hand, option (b) minimizes the passenger's distress and could negatively impact their experience and their perception of the airline's care for individual needs.

  • Delta Pilot Hiring Process

Delta pilots undergo an assessment including cognitive, job knowledge, and personality tests. You will also need to undergo a short psychological evaluation, drug test, and background check.

Delta Hiring Requirements

All of Delta Airline's career opportunities require employees to be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be authorized to work in the U.S. If you meet the aforementioned criteria, you may apply for a Delta job, but be sure to read about the intensive process.

You will also be required to be over the age of 18, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Delta Hiring Tips

  • Ask questions – This is your chance to not only get clarification but to show the interviewer that you're truly interested.
  • Dress the part – Dress professionally and tidily.
  • Arrive early – This gives you time to practice your interview responses and to figure out where you're going. It also helps make a good impression.
  • Do your research – Don’t wing the interview(s); spend time assessing the job position and the company.
  • Practice – Practice your answers and interview skills so that you won't be as nervous and can appear confident. 

Delta Interviews

Delta has a multi-step interview process, but it's important to note that different job positions can add or omit interviews. However, the typical interview process consists of a phone and/or video interview, followed by an in-person interview.

It is essential to prepare for your interviews as this is your chance for employers to get to know you.

The phone interview is just as it sounds—you are called and asked some basic questions (availability, salary requirements, experience, etc.).

The video interview is set up so that you receive the interview questions via email, but instead of talking and interacting with a person, you record your interview answers on the computer and then submit them to the recruiter.

If you pass the phone and/or computer interview successfully, you are then invited to schedule a face-to-face meeting. You may encounter a one-on-one face-to-face interview, a panel interview, or a group interview.

The group interview can be a bit unusual as there can be 30–50 other candidates at the same venue as you. This is because Delta splits the candidates into groups that rotate between three stations: informative presentation, interview in front of two or more panel members, and team exercises. Once this is completed, everyone watches an informative Delta tutorial video.

Delta highly encourages its interviewees to answer interview questions using the STAR method, to ensure you respond deliberately and effectively.

If you pass the interview(s), then the next step is waiting to hear back from Delta regarding a potential job offer. Don’t be surprised if it takes time to hear back from them; Delta wants to be sure it's hiring the right employees.
